#1: Sweat It Out.

Since the pandemic started, I’ve been sweating out my COVID anxiety online, testing out over 60 online fitness programs. When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins, which can help you cope with daily stressors by boosting your mood and improving your well-being. The hardest part is holding yourself accountable, so make sure you set a time in your calendar in advance and honour that time for yourself!

Whether it’s 20 minutes, 45 minutes or 60 minutes, any amount of time you can devote to daily exercise or movement will make a difference in your overall health. Canadian physical activity guidelines recommend adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity aerobic exercise per week. During the pandemic, it’s more important than ever to keep active, to keep joints and muscles healthy and to ensure you’re supporting optimal heart health. Personally, I like to work out 30 to 45 minutes per session 4 to 5 days a week.

1. Yoga with Adriene

Whenever I need some Zen, Adriene Mishler’s refreshingly real and easy-to-follow practices are accompanied by her signature commentary that’s soothing, inspiring, and just a little bit quirky. With options to join her monthly Find What Feels Good (FWA) membership or to do her free videos on YouTube (which I do weekly), Yoga With Adriene is like doing a yoga session with your own personal life coach. I especially love Adriene’s annual 30-day yoga journeys in January, which are centered around a new theme each year and inspire me to give my body some daily self-care and love.

2. Tracy Anderson

The Holy Grail of dance cardio. Beloved by celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow and Victoria Beckham, Tracy Anderson‘s live classes and online DVDs, notably her Metamorphosis program, will leave you exhilarated and challenged every time. I’ve tried countless other dance cardio programs, but the Tracy Anderson Method is seriously effective and features some of the best music I’ve ever heard in live workouts. Unlike her live classes, her online DVDs do feature generic house/pop beats, but to remedy this I make my own Spotify playlists with my favourite house and pop songs. Highly recommended if you want to get into shape fast – you just have to be prepared to sweat for it!


JETSWEAT is an online fitness platform and app featuring classes from over 30 of the world’s best boutique fitness studios, including modelFIT, 305 Fitness, Studio House Pilates and Playlist Yoga. With both live and pre-recorded streaming options for yoga, Pilates, HIIT, strength training, breath work, boxing, and martial arts, there is something for everyone. I love the variety as there’s always something new to try!

4. Barre Body

I discovered this gem of a barre studio a few months into the pandemic and love its positive (yet challenging!) vibe. In addition to its many barre class options, Barre Body also offers mat and reformer Pilates, yoga, meditation, dance cardio, stretch and more. Both live and pre-recorded classes are available so you can dance your way to a stronger and leaner body anytime you want.

5. Sweat App

If you’re struggling with exercise motivation during the pandemic, Kayla Itsines’ Sweat App is like having your own personal trainer. Classes range from HIIT and strength training to barre and yoga. With a variety of programs and levels to choose from, as well as a community of inspiring trainers, Sweat will keep you motivated to make it to the next level of your fitness journey, with food and health resources you can access through the app.
